is there any way to use a home printer to print white on brown cardstock?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as white printer ink. When you see white lettering on a colored background, what your printer is actually doing is printing the color of the background and leaving empty space where the letters are, allowing the paper behind (usually white) to show through. If this is the effect you desire, you'll need to create a text box in your word processing program, fill it with a background color, and then type over the top using white text. As you can imagine, this uses a lot of ink though! Archiver's does have a few other options to get the same look, such as writing with a white pen on colored cardstock, using white alphabet rub-on letters, or stamping and embossing with white powder. Hope this helps!
